A Pig's Tale: Pig Named 6-7 Granted Clemency by Miami-Dade Leader.
While perhaps not at the same level as sparing festive fowl, but the county's top official conducted a presidential-style act this week by formally pardoning the life of a swine named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava performed the seasonal stunt at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the heart of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.
“The swine has done no wrong. She deserves this act of mercy. She has committed zero crimes,” declared Levine Cava in a speech with inescapable allusions to the sheer volume of pardons issued since the commencement of a current administration.
“If we disregard eating six or seven apples per day,” she went on. “May this pig enjoy a lengthy and joyful existence without fear.”
The gathering, simultaneously observing and challenging the local cultural practice of feasting on pork during the holidays, was created to replicate the annual turkey pardoning at the White House.
The swine, donated by a Coral Gables firefighter, was named for the modern linguistic fad of young people shouting “6-7” – deriving from a musical verse – often without clear purpose. The trend became so widespread that a major dictionary recently made “six-seven” its annual vocabulary selection.
A New Life
Six Seven the pig is now scheduled to spend its days at a rural sanctuary “far from charcoal and roasting pans”, according to the ceremony's official statement.
“The pig pardon has become a beloved tradition to kick off the holiday season,” said the cafe owner, in a particularly upbeat message.
“It embodies the essence of Miami: happy, diverse, and based in heritage that bring people together. Annually, we are honored to observe culture and compassion in a way unique to Miami.”
Attendees enjoyed a plant-based fare of croquettes and cafecito as they celebrated Six Seven’s big moment.
