Jujutsu Kaisen: The Execution Film Seeks to Fix the Series' Biggest Debate

JuJutsu Kaisen: Execution isn't exactly an original film. Rather, the newest film from the JuJutsu Kaisen fantasy saga is a compilation of the show's sophomore season combined with the opening installments of its third season, which kicks off the Culling Games arc from the original manga. This positions Execution, which just got a fresh preview, the earliest way to watch the beginning of the upcoming season ahead of its premiere in early 2026. The feature launches in Japan on Nov. 7, and in the United States and Canada on December 5.

The Culling Games Arc

In the Culling Games storyline, Special Grade sorcerer Yuta Okkotsu makes his entrance into the show and is charged by sorcery authorities to take down his peer Yuji Itadori. Their long-awaited clash takes place for the first time on the silver screen, and if the animators at the production house have an exceptional piece as episodes 40 and 41 prepared for viewers this holiday season, JuJutsu Kaisen: Execution may end up being the surprise that fans have anticipated.

The "Thunderclap" Controversy

"The Thunderclap sequence" from season 2 is often hailed as among the best moments in the history of anime, in spite of the major issues in the previous year when the series first premiered. It was reported that the creators were facing harsh deadlines to the point, and the broadcast edition that was shown at the time was unfinished and allegedly not what the animators initially intended.

The Intense Confrontation

The sequence showcases a long-awaited battle between two strong jujutsu users, the King of Curses and the Eight-Handled Sword. It boasts unique visual techniques, masterful camera work, and dynamic fight choreography. A subsequent Blu-ray release provided an opportunity to include extra footage to expand the fight. So it was plausible Execution could enhance the fight further. However, looking at the new trailer, it's hard to tell if that fight has undergone further polishing. It'd be a disappointment if it didn't, because a scene of that magnitude has to be experienced on the biggest screen with the finest quality available.

The Second Season's Triumph

The second installment of JuJutsu Kaisen elevated the franchise to become the top anime of the year, and when the Thunderclap episodes were aired consecutively, it was the focus of attention for an extended period in the animation fandom. Viewers were aware of the production challenges, which made them appreciate what they witnessed even more. People clamored to see if the Blu-ray, launched in mid-March, would include new footage to the battle or to see if it was polished at all, and were thrilled to see precisely that, alongside color corrections, more motion, and revised visual style.

The Film's Potential

But the home video can only improve what has previously shown in the television version, whereas the cinematic experience has the opportunity to fully realize the scene with additional alterations and completely new animated sequences.

A Masterpiece

As it stands, these pair of installments represent the masterpiece of JuJutsu Kaisen, and should be treated as such by the studio, especially considering the issues they faced at the time. It's captured the interest of anime fans all over the planet, and the Culling Games arc is a much-expected plotline of the coming year. If the production company wants to begin the year strongly, revisit the series' best moment once again in movie houses with the finest version we've seen yet.
