LA Battles Historic Heat Only One Week After Severe Winter Storm.

In the wake of significant rainfall that resulted in floodwaters across sections of the city, LA is now grappling with unusually high weather for late February.

All-Time High Temperatures

During the day Friday, the mercury soared to ninety-one degrees Fahrenheit in central LA, as reported by the National Weather Service. This breaks the prior high for February 27th, which was eighty-eight degrees Fahrenheit and was recorded in the previous year.

"Exceptionally warm weather" were labeled on official graphics for the region.

Public Health Warnings

Forecasters stated that Friday's conditions posed an "elevated risk for heat illness" for those at risk. Their recommendations suggested:

  • Drinking plenty of fluids.
  • Limiting outdoor activities during the afternoon hours of the day.
  • Ensuring you do not leave children or pets unattended in a parked vehicle.

A Sharp Weather Swing

This dramatic increase in heat comes on the heels of a massive storm system that battered the state recently. That system brought heavy snow, strong winds, and thunderstorms to the mountains, leading to flash flood warnings for millions residents.

Weekend Outlook

Looking ahead a cooldown will arrive. Temperatures were expected to drop to around sixty-one degrees Fahrenheit in the city by Friday night.

Additional areas that hit 90°F included Long Beach, Burbank, and Woodland Hills. Meanwhile, Santa Maria, Oxnard, Camarillo, and Westwood were forecast to reach the high eighties.

In the coming days, central LA can anticipate temperatures in the eighties, with a further cooldown expected for the start of March.
