Arsenal's manager has expressed confidence that his side can persist in handling with fitness issues after revealing that star striker Kai Havertz remains out for several more weeks.

Extended Absence for Havertz

The Germany international has been out since the summer after undergoing knee surgery. Originally slated to be available sooner, Arteta revealed the player hit a snag when stepping up his rehabilitation and failed to reach “the required stage.”

“We learned, and we were able to put together a group that is far more dependable and has more options,” Arteta said.

Selection Dilemma for Brentford Clash

This news leaves a dilemma for the midweek home game against Brentford. The manager needs to decide between persisting with Mikel Merino, who found the net playing out of position against Chelsea, or recalling Viktor Gyökeres, who made a return off the bench as a substitute. Veteran striker Gabriel Jesus is also in contention after 11 months out.

Defensive Concerns Persist

Additional concerns involve defender William Saliba and winger Leandro Trossard, who both missed the Stamford Bridge game. As a result, recent arrivals Cristhian Mosquera and Piero Hincapié will probably start again in the backline for the table-toppers.

The manager is convinced the substantial investment on new players ahead of this season has resulted in a much stronger position to deal with such setbacks.

Squad Depth Vital for Premier League Pursuit

When asked if more options was aiding their league challenge, Arteta was emphatic. “Indeed, because this season has been worse in the attacking line, and now what’s happening with the backline,” he continued.

“History has shown us that we must deploy players in alternative spots, and they must be capable to adapt to new tasks if we are to fight at this level. And the example of Mikel Merino.”

Arteta's Support for Suffering Havertz

Addressing the complication previously mentioned by national team coach Julian Nagelsmann, Arteta provided further detail. “He followed all protocols. He could not go to the subsequent stage and now the signs are like we have solved that issue.”

He shared his personal desire to see him return. “We’re all desperate to have him. Honestly, he is a footballer who, in my view, I love so much for what he brings to the team, but his personality, his nature. I observe his frustration being outside.”

“His fitness history is exceptional, he’s been always available, and I look forward to get him back with the squad and playing because I believe it’s going to be a huge lift.”
