The Details Known About the Victims of the Bondi Terrorist Incident
A minimum of 16 individuals lost their lives and more than 40 sustained injuries when assailants fired on a Hanukkah gathering at Bondi Beach, an incident Australian authorities are describing as a act of terrorism.
As of the newest reports, authorities have announced the death toll is 16, which includes one of the suspected gunmen. Moreover, 42 people with injuries were admitted to the hospital.
The victims are still awaiting formally identified, but investigators think their ages span between 10 and 87 years of age.

Eli Schlanger
Originally from London clergyman Eli Schlanger, 41, was the first to be publicly identified.
Reportedly a father-of-five, he worked as the associate rabbi at Chabad of Bondi. Relatives and friends spoke of him as “lively, dynamic, and vibrant and a very warm outgoing person who was dedicated to assisting others”.
“How can a joyful rabbi who went to a beach to spread happiness and light, to make the world a better place, lose his life in this way?” a relative asked.
Schlanger and his wife had recently celebrated the arrival of their newest son in October.
Alexander Kleytman
Alexander Kleytman was also confirmed among the deceased, as stated by his wife.
She described the events before the shooting, saying they were standing when the shooting erupted. “He moved to protect me because he wanted to stay near me,” she recalled.
The pair were both Holocaust survivors, having endured immense hardship in their childhood. They had later relocated to Australia from Eastern Europe.
Dan Elkayam
The French foreign ministry have announced that French man Dan Elkayam is among the dead.
Publicly, the Foreign Minister declared that France mourned with his family and loved ones, the Jewish community, and the Australian people.
“This low act is a fresh and tragic example of a disgusting rise of antisemitic hatred that we must eradicate,” the statement continued.
One Child
A 10-year-old girl who was taken to the Sydney Children’s Hospital has been confirmed among the fatalities, authorities stated.
One Israeli Citizen
An Israeli citizen was a fatality in the incident, according to multiple sources citing the Israeli foreign ministry.
Those Injured
Of the 42 people transported to hospital, a significant number remain under care, with several in serious condition. The injured include two officers who attended the scene.
A wounded man is a bystander who rushed to the scene to confront one of the attackers. Hailed as a hero, he received bullet wounds but is recovering well in hospital.
Arsen Ostrovsky
Among the injured is Arsen Ostrovsky, a human rights lawyer. Sources state he was hurt and underwent treatment in hospital.
Communicating, he described the scene as an “utter carnage,” but also praised the actions of those who came to assist. He said he believed it was a “miracle” he survived.
Evan Zlatkis
Evan Zlatkis, a community director, was also injured in the shooting. He described he heard “a large number” of gunshots.
“I thought it was rubber bullets, but it’s gone into my own skin and into my leg,” he explained. “I’ve been shot myself. They bandaged me up. I’m ok.”
