The star has given the complete sum of his £25k Mercury Prize winnings to the trust for venues, which operates to protect the UK's independent live music spots.

The star was awarded the cheque on mid-October as his new release the album was declared the top album of the past year.

The musician has opted to hand the money over to the Music Venues Trust, in appreciation of the vital role grassroots venues fulfilled in his beginning days.

"I would not have achieved this success if it weren't for all the performances I performed around the area, and elsewhere, when I was just getting going," said the artist. "These spaces are legendary, but they are facing challenges."

Since the start of 2023, more than 150 of these locations have shut down – approximately 16 percent of the entire UK sector.

Recently, well-known musicians including Pulp, Coldplay, Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran have all backed the trust in its initiatives to keep the scene afloat, by adding a small levy to their ticket costs, which benefits independent venues.

Sam Fender also took part, raising over £100k on his 2024 arena tour to assist numerous small stages across England, Scotland, and Wales.

The money helped spaces that were dealing with potential shutdown due to difficulties arising from floods, blazes and bereavements, as well as regulatory hurdles, legal disputes and noise complaints.

Additional spaces received funding support in modernizing facilities and gear that helped performers and fans.

"The notion that funds from concerts in major spaces backs the local stages, where it begins for artists like me, is just sensible," Fender has said.

The musician is not the first artist to give his Mercury Prize funds to good deeds.

Back when Pulp earned the award in the year 1996 for their album their work, vocalist the singer stated that the band would donate their winnings to the non-profit War Child.

During 2002, musician Ms Dynamite divided her prize between several good causes, such as the NSPCC and a Sickle Cell charity.

"Additionally, I donated a thousand pounds to the center, to their gymnastics class, because I practiced gymnastics when I was a child and they needed new equipment," Ms Dynamite told outlets.

Two years ago, the band donated their winnings to the community center that nurtured their band, as well as other grassroots music organisations.

Additionally the 1994 recipients they contributed their award to a MS organization after a close contact was diagnosed the condition.

"Receiving the award was quite enough," said vocalist the singer. "The money was the bonus but we didn't need the extra, because we had the cake. So our success touched the lives of others."

Recently, the Music Venues Trust revealed it had saved a couple of small stages in south-east England, by bringing them into local control.

The Joiners in that area and the other in the city were bought under the Own Our Venues program, which is supported by Arts Council England and music fans who buy "ownership units" in the properties.
