The Reform UK leader Claims Educators of ‘Poisoning Our Kids’ on Race Issues
Nigel Farage has asserted that teachers would go on strike within weeks a success at the polls for his party, charging that they are “poisoning our kids” by instructing children that black pupils are victims and white children oppressors.
At a gathering for a private US Christian college, the politician expressed his perspective on British schools, claiming that the “radical left-wing” had “now in control of our education system”.
“I expect a teachers’ strike soon after securing a victory,” he remarked during a Q&A session.
“They are poisoning our kids. They instruct children to be ashamed of their country. They inform an eight-year-old black child that he is oppressed and little Oliver, who is white, who is eight that he is a perpetrator. They are dividing us, not uniting us. They promote this harmful mindset.”
In response to Farage’s claims, the head of a major education union dismissed the idea that the schools were under Marxist influence as “nonsense”. He pointed out that industrial action must relate to educators’ working conditions, and questioned whether the party would target these immediately upon entering government.
“Farage has built his political career on dog-whistle politics and now, similar to other figures, he is lining up teachers and their unions for a fight,” the union leader said.
“I think that’s grossly irresponsible. Neither I nor our union – advocate such divisive theories as he claims … Should he become prime minister he would sell out our public services, including education … and he would be a disaster for students and learning.”
The party, which is leading the polls by about 10 points, has not set out much detail on a proposed education policy and does not appear to have appointed an education spokesperson.
However, Farage’s remarks indicated the group would reform the educational framework. Farage declared: “We face an enormous task with schooling – absolutely herculean. Moreover, it won’t happen quickly; it requires years, years to turn this around.”
Farage expressed that gen Z was more open to analytical thought, but millennials were “absolutely hopeless”.
Honoring a conservative activist, he commented: “My goal for schooling is to foster independent thought – to educate individuals that there are two points of view and you make up your own mind rather than current practices where one is virtuous and one is evil. This is a huge undertaking in both Britain and America.”
Reform has previously clashed with a major educators’ organization, after the union leader labeled them “far right and racist” and described the leader as “a poundshop Donald Trump”.
Farage has accused Kebede of being “an avowed radical” … an individual intent that young minds be corrupted at school, their minds should be poisoned about everything to do with this country” and maintained that the union is trying to indoctrinate teenagers against Reform.
Almost one million people work in schools in the UK, with educators comprising half and the others teaching assistants and support staff. The leading teachers’ organization has hundreds of thousands of members.
National strikes over educators’ salaries and work environment in 2023 led to significant interruptions in educational institutions and millions of days of lost learning for students.
During the American gathering, the Reform leader also vowed to promote the digital courses of the Christian college in the UK. He stated such groups were “key to resistance”, noting: “I am serious. I will help attract vast numbers of young people to these educational programs. I make that commitment now and I’ll do that.”
The institution, a religious educational establishment, offers free courses. According to its online description: “A scientific, literary, theological, political, and moral education is vital for well-being and to maintain the benefits of civil and religious liberty. It offers these excellent programs for free to all who wish to learn.”
