Toronto Blue Jays Claim Fall Classic Meeting Versus defending champion Dodgers
The outfielder contributed to the Houston Astros securing the championship in the 2017 season.
Toronto's Blue Jays earned a spot in their first World Series since the 1993 season by beating the Seattle Mariners in the seventh Game 7 of the AL Championship Series.
Trailing 3-1, the star outfielder hit a three-run homer in the seventh, guiding the sole Canadian team in the majors to a 4-3 win in the series. Next up are the Dodgers, the team that is the defending champions, in the anticipated World Series.
"I'm just so happy for this squad, the city, Canada," said Springer, a star of the Astros team that secured the 2017 title. "It's truly an incredible feeling."
Springer has now hit 23 October home runs, making him third in history after Ramirez (29) and Altuve (27).
"It's hard to imagine another player on planet Earth that I'd prefer in that spot other than him with his post-season brilliance," remarked manager John Schneider.
Seattle, despite leading the early in the series, continue to be the only MLB franchise that has never reached in a Fall Classic.
Wilson said "without a doubt that it's going to sting" following his club's elimination at Rogers Centre, but praised their efforts in the campaign.
"It's a special team. Sadly that we ended up on the unsuccessful side of this game," he added.
Toronto's team claimed the World Series on both previous visits in the early 90s, and will welcome the Los Angeles in the opener on Friday.
